Faculty and Research Update

During Spring break on February 23rd at the Yadav Primary School in O Yadav district of the Ratanakiri province of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Professor James Noel Ward was awarded The National Construction Medal (Meday Sthapana Cheat) Gold Class, Okhna, by His Excellency Thang Savun, Governor of the Ratanakiri Province, on behalf of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni for Professor Ward’s work with Soutien à Initiative Privée pour l'Aide à la Reconstruction des pays du sud-est asiatique (SIPAR).

For 20 years SIPAR has played a pioneering role in the rebirth of education in Cambodia, concentrating its activity in rural areas. SIPAR’s goal is to open doors to the world for children and young people on the road towards knowledge through the pleasures of reading, the first step in the battle against illiteracy and poverty. In addition to his patronage of SIPAR, Professor Ward has served for 15 years as a volunteer reader and inspection mission guide for SIPAR patrons on annual tours of Cambodia. The National Construction Medal was instituted by King Norodom Sihanouk on 30th June 1994 to recognize contributions toward the reconstruction and development of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the wake of the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime.

In addition to his SIPAR work, Professor Ward also held meetings with government officials of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s Securities and Exchange Commission and National Bank as part of his ongoing advising for the improvement of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s sovereign credit rating.
