The AUP Alumni Reunion Weekend is just around the corner and everyone is invited to join in the fun! Here is the complete list of events for the weekend. To register your attendance, including for the free events, please visit the registration page or our website.

Friday, June 12th

Culturefish! Tour
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Meeting Point: In front of metro Cite

Rediscover the sites of Paris by taking a walking tour co-created by AUP alumnus, Joël Issa ’04. Culturefish! Tours highlight many of the French “quirky” cultural differences not found in standard walking tours while enjoying the beauties of Paris.

THATlou
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Meeting Point: Entrance to the Musée Louvre, 75001 Paris

An AUP alumni treasure hunt at the Louvre Museum with THATLou – experience the artistic treasures of the Louvre in a whole new way. As treasure hunts go, THATLou is quite simple: teams consisting of 2 to 4 people compete, following a list of clues that lead them to works of art – or “treasures” – in the museum. Team members photograph themselves in front of as many works of art on the list as possible, earning varied points per treasure. Sometimes bonus questions are embedded in the accompanying texts – either requiring silly poses for photos, drawing on articles from our blog or from the Louvre’s own information sheets.

AUP Commencement 2015

On Tuesday, May 26th, we welcomed a new crop of alumni into our AUP community with our 2015 Commencement Ceremony. One of the largest groups to graduate from AUP in our history with 278 students eligible to cross the stage. The day attracted a large number of families, friends and alumni to the beautiful Théâtre du Châtelet.

As has been a tradition since 1984, AUP awarded three honorary degree recipients into our fold: Benjamin Millepied, Director, Paris Opera Ballet; Lisa Anderson, President, American University in Cairo; Margee Ensign, President, American University of Nigeria. An honorary degree is very often awarded to distinguished individuals whose accomplishments are consistent with the mission and core values of AUP.

This year, we further awarded a Distinguished Alumni Award to Sean Casey '04, for his amazing work fighting the Ebola epidemic on the frontlines and immediate response in organizing assistance to communities in Nepal following the recent earthquake that devastated the region. Receiving his award, Sean gave a riveting speech and received a standing ovation from the packed theater. An outstanding example of global leadership, we are grateful to call Sean one of our own.

To all the graduates and honorees, congratulations!

AUP Celebrates Student Media

During this academic year, student media at AUP has seen an incredible transformation. While it has always been one of the university's largest student-run organizations, AUP Student Media (ASM) took a leap in its development by uniting its 3 pillars under the well-known Peacock brand. What is now called Peacock Media, consists of three distinct forms of media, notably print, digital and video production. Students continue to create the glossy print Peacock Magazine once a year, but significant changes were made to AUP TV, which is now known as Peacock TV and the 7eme.com student platform, which has become the Peacock Post, an online newspaper for AUP campus and world news. The more traditional Paris/Atlantic will still be produced in the spring semester and remains an important creative piece to the otherwise often news-driven Peacock Media products.

A curriculum that complements student media

The administration at AUP recently realized that an increased involvement of faculty and staff could facilitate and help students with the production of student-driven media. In an initiative mainly led by Kevin Fore, Assistant Dean of Student Services and Matthew Fraser, Associate Professor, Department of Global Communications, AUP created three student media workshops to offer students an opportunity to get involved in dynamic teams, overseen by knowledgeable and professional faculty/staff, producing multi-platform journalism.

To celebrate this development and the success that it has yielded, ASM organized this year's Student Media Launch Party in the recently renovated AMEX Cafe in the Combes building. The event turned out to be just as successful as the publications, videos and news stories that students had produced all year long. To read the full article on the exciting developments in student media on campus, please visit our website.
