Robert William Virtue, Board of Directors, ACP Robert, aged 68, was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Darlington and passed away on Nov. 4, 2009, in Paris, France. Bob was a 1959 graduate of Darlington High School, graduating with honors. He went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he participated in the NROTC while pursuing a political science/business and economic major and working as a classical music announcer for the University's radio station WHA. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1964 and was an avid Badgers fan. He was always a firm believer in education, a staunch student advocate, and as such maintained generous ties with UW-Madison, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American College in Paris.


Bob's career was distinguished in international insurance, beginning in New York City and later in France and Belgium Bermuda and Florida. In 1996 he returned to Florida to create Mont Blanc Associates, a managing general and consulting agency serving Florida insurance companies. Bob engineered the first commercial residential depopulation of JUA and also assisted new insurance companies entering the Florida market. Bob will be remembered for his generous spirit, the camaraderie he had with his siblings, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, rapport with his nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends, and the joy in his grandsons. The twinkle in his Irish eyes and his Irish humor will be greatly missed.  Bob is survived by his wife, Susan Straker-Virtue of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his sons, Scott (Margaret) of McFarland, and Sean (Ilizabeth) of Margate, Fla.; grandsons, Christopher of McFarland, and Ian of of Margate, Fla.; brothers, Richard and John (Buck) (Chrissy) Virtue of Darlington; his sisters, Joan Sorensen of Caspar, Calif., Rita (Robert) Sauer of Neenah, Kay (Thomas) Wiegel of Darlington, Janice (Richard) Sydow of McFarland, and Peggy (Kevin) Murray of Phoenix; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Melissa, Brad, Denise, Bethany, Heather, Ryan and Katelyn; many loving cousins and friends; mother of his sons, Marilyn Smith-Virtue of Madison; and dog, Mario. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Mary (O'Rourke) Virtue.  "Au revoir mon ami".

A memorial service will be held at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Darlington, on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. Visitation at the church will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Celebration at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Holy Rosary Church, Darlington, WI 53530.
