STEPHEN PLUMMER STUDENT SUPPORT FUND

Stephen Plummer, ACP '68 and AUP Staff Member
We recently received the very sad news of the death of Stephen Plummer, aged 61, on 20 October 2009 in North Carolina, USA.  Steve had been a student at the American College in Paris from 1966-68 and then returned to Paris in the 1970s to become Dean of Students and then Vice-President of the College.  He is survived by his brother, Alfred Plummer, of Wabash, Indiana.

Since informing you of this we have received many messages from alumni far and wide, which we have passed on to the family.  After requests from a number of fellow alumni and AUP community members, we are happy to announce that a memorial fund in his name has been established.  The Stephen Plummer Student Support Fund will help students in urgent short-term need of funds.  It is thought that this would have been something Stephen would have been proud of, and reflects the support he gave to AUP students over so many years.  A founding gift has been made, and we ask you to contact us or donate online (stating 'Stephen Plummer Fund' in the comments section) if you would like to contribute towards this memorial fund and make a difference to a student in need.

STEVEN SHAILER MEMORIAL FUND

Robin Kaye Goodman '94 informed us of this sad news, and writes: "It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Steven Shailer on December 7, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.  A graduate of AUP in 1991, Steven was passionate, outgoing, intensely curious, and impossibly handsome; he packed a wealth of life experience into his 41 years.

In 1989, shortly after arriving in France to study Art History, Steven boarded a train to Germany to witness the tearing down of the Berlin Wall.  At AUP, lecture classes, as well as study trips to Florence, Ravenna, and Venice, fostered his love for art, and particularly for all things (and people!) Italian.  A native Floridian, Steven moved to New York and then Los Angeles after completing his studies in Paris.  Along the way, he worked in various creative industries and shared his wisdom and interests - from architecture to yoga - with numerous friends, including several AUP alumni with whom he was in regular contact.  Son, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and classmate, Steven will be lovingly remembered by many."

A fund in Steven's name is being established at AUP and more information will be released soon.  Messages for Steven's family and inquiries regarding the memorial fund can be sent to Alumni Affairs.
